Overview

The 2011 GSMDCA National Specialty will be held in Clemmons, NC, outside Winston-Salem, the gateway to the Yadkin Valley Wine Region.  North Carolina’s wine-growing region is an area of about 1.4 million acres in the Yadkin River valley which for decades was a key tobacco-growing region, but now boasts a reputation for growing high quality grapes and producing world class award-winning wines.   The Yadkin Valley Wine Trail consists of 32 operating wineries and vineyards in the area open for wine tasting, sales, and vineyard tours.

Tanglewood Park, where many of the National Specialty events will be held, is the site of the annual North Carolina Wine Festival.  The park features gardens, horse stables, hiking, biking and riding trails, and several golf courses; the park will provide a beautiful backdrop for our show.  Tanglewood is an easy 3 mile drive from the host hotel, the Village Inn Golf and Conference Center, an affordable but lovely place to stay with ample room and easy access to the interstate, restaurants, shopping, and animal and human hospitals.

Our final event will be the National Specialty Pack Dog Hike.  We will hike the rolling hills of RayLen Winery, 100 acres of vineyards only eight miles from the Village Inn.  At the end of the hike, wine tasting will be available and we'll celebrate the close of our show week in style.

This will be a memorable specialty full of southern hospitality, fun, learning, competition, adventure, and camaraderie.  Please visit our website often for updated information on the show schedule, descriptions of events, accommodations, travel tips, and things to do in the area.  Check out The Grapevine for comments and helpful suggestions from Southbound members and be sure to join us in the Fall of 2011 for . . .
